Hue Tourism Statistics: Arrivals, Revenue, Heritage Visits and Market Trends

Key Hue tourism statistics covering visitor arrivals, international markets, revenue, heritage sites, seasonality and future targets.

Hue tourism grew strongly from 2023 through 2025, with visitor arrivals, international demand and tourism revenue all reaching higher levels. The figures below cover Hue and, where the source specifies it, Thua Thien-Hue, with periods clearly separated between completed results, estimates and targets.

Headline growth

Hue welcomed nearly 3.2 million tourist arrivals in 2023, according to the Hue tourism conference 2024. International visitors made up nearly 1.2 million of those arrivals. Tourism revenue reached more than 6.605 trillion VND, and the conference reported a 45.7% year-on-year increase in revenue.

The 2024 result was higher. The Hue tourism conference 2025 reported nearly 3.9 million visitors, including 1.45 million international visitors. International travelers represented about 36% of total arrivals. Domestic visitors rose 25% year-on-year. The same conference presented an estimated year-end tourism-revenue plan of 10.8–11.2 trillion VND, rather than a single completed result.

The reported 2025 figures show another substantial step up. A Hue 2025 year-end review estimated 6.3 million visitors and about 13.2 trillion VND in tourism revenue. A separate Hue tourism association 2026 review reported approximately 2.41 million overnight visitors and revenue exceeding 13,000 billion VND. These sources use different measures: total visitors in one review and overnight visitors in the other, so the figures should not be treated as interchangeable.

The Hue tourism 2026 review also described foreign-source demand from South Korea, Thailand, Australia and Europe as rising sharply in 2025. That statement indicates market momentum but does not provide a quantified increase for each market.

Visitors and visitor mix

The first half of 2024 provides a more precise view of the visitor mix. In the first six months, total visitors to Thua Thien-Hue reached 1,950,251, comprising 821,290 international visitors and 1,128,961 domestic visitors. The Hue tourism 6M 2024 report reported total visitor growth of 24.6% year-on-year.

International demand grew faster than domestic demand in that period. International visitors were up more than 42.6% year-on-year, while domestic visitors rose 14.2%. Tourism revenue for the first six months was estimated at 4,001.9 billion VND, an increase of 10.9% year-on-year.

The annual 2024 figures point in the same direction: 1.45 million international visitors out of nearly 3.9 million total visitors, plus 25% year-on-year growth in domestic visitors. The conference’s expected average stay was more than 2 days, and projected average spending was 2.1 million VND per visitor. Both are projections or expectations associated with the 2024 plan, not a separately stated completed annual measurement.

The 2025 partial-year figures show continued expansion. In the first seven months, Hue exceeded 4 million tourist arrivals, up more than 71% year-on-year. International visitors exceeded 1.2 million and were up more than 41% year-on-year. Overnight stays were nearly 1.5 million, up more than 23% year-on-year. These figures come from the Hue tourism July 2025 report.

By the first eight months of 2025, Hue had received an estimated 4.6 million tourists, including nearly 1.3 million international tourists and more than 3.3 million domestic tourists. Staying guests exceeded 1.7 million. The Hue tourism August 2025 report reported tourism revenue above 8.74 trillion VND for that period.

Revenue and visitor behavior

Revenue growth has not moved in exactly the same way as arrival growth in every reported period. In 2023, tourism revenue exceeded 6.605 trillion VND and increased 45.7% year-on-year. In the first six months of 2024, revenue was 4,001.9 billion VND, up 10.9% year-on-year. For the first ten months of 2024, revenue exceeded 6.66 trillion VND, an increase of 14.3% year-on-year, according to the Hue Statistics Office 10M 2024 report.

The first ten months of 2024 also recorded more than 3.2 million tourists, with arrivals up 26.8% year-on-year. That partial-year arrival result and the first-six-month revenue result cover different periods, so they should be read as separate snapshots rather than combined into an annual rate.

The 2025 data shows stronger revenue momentum. In the first seven months, tourism revenue exceeded 7.455 trillion VND and was up nearly 56% year-on-year. In the first eight months, revenue surpassed 8.74 trillion VND. The year-end review estimated about 13.2 trillion VND for 2025, while the association review reported revenue exceeding 13,000 billion VND. The small difference in wording reflects separate source reports and rounding, not a basis for a more precise total.

Overnight stays are a useful indicator of visitors who remain in the destination. They were nearly 1.5 million in the first seven months of 2025 and exceeded 1.7 million in the first eight months. The separate 2025 year-end association review put overnight visitors at approximately 2.41 million. These are overnight-visitor measures, not total arrival counts.

Heritage tourism

Heritage sites are a major measurable component of Hue’s tourism economy. The Hue Monuments conservation report 2024 recorded nearly 2.8 million visits to Hue Monuments in 2024. The same report gave a same-annual-comparison heritage-site figure of 2.28 million visits, so the two reported totals should be retained as distinct measures rather than reconciled through unsupported arithmetic.

The report also recorded more than 1.1 million international heritage-site visitors and nearly 1.3 million Vietnamese visitors in 2024. Heritage ticket revenue exceeded 350 billion VND and increased 151% year-on-year. The international and Vietnamese visitor figures describe heritage-site demand specifically; they are not a replacement for citywide visitor totals.

Hue’s heritage offer also expanded its recognized cultural profile. The Hue UNESCO update stated that the embossed inscriptions on the Nine Dynastic Urns received UNESCO recognition on 8 May 2024. By 2024, Hue was described there as having “one destination, 8 heritages.” These are heritage-status and destination-positioning facts rather than visitor-volume statistics.

Transport infrastructure at one heritage location also received a quantified green-tourism pilot. At King Gia Long’s mausoleum, the Hue green tourism pilot report recorded three electric buses, 23 electric bicycles and 50 bicycles in 2024. The pilot began operating on 4 February 2024.

Seasonal and partial-year results

Tet produced a concentrated visitor period in early 2024. Over nine days during Tet, Hue received about 100,000 visitors, up 17.64% from Tet 2023, according to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism. Tourism revenue in Thua Thien-Hue during that nine-day period was estimated at 160 billion VND, up 4.82% from Tet 2023, according to the Hue Tet tourism report 2024.

Earlier 2023 checkpoints show how quickly international demand was recovering. In the first quarter of 2023, international visitors to Thua Thien-Hue exceeded 255,000, or 55 times the same period of the prior year, according to Hue provincial tourism data. In the first eight months of 2023, international arrivals were estimated at 672,000, nine times higher year-on-year, according to the Hue tourism eight-month report 2023.

The monthly 2025 data illustrates the scale of the high season and broader year. In July alone, Hue welcomed nearly 709,000 visitors, including more than 99,600 international visitors. Total arrivals were up over 80% year-on-year, while international arrivals rose nearly 52%, according to the Hue tourism July 2025 report.

In August 2025 alone, Hue welcomed nearly 594,300 visitors. International arrivals exceeded 83,880 and domestic arrivals were nearly 51,400, according to the Hue tourism August 2025 report. These monthly figures are not added to the eight-month total here because the supplied reports use rounded values and the relationship between their categories is not fully specified.

International source markets

The available market figures identify several important source countries. In 2024, Hue welcomed 5,962 visitors from Poland, equal to 1% of all foreign tourists, according to the Hue Poland promotion report. The same reported figure appears in the source-market data for 2024 and is retained once here as a single statistic.

In the first five months of 2025, Polish visitors to Hue numbered 4,394. Nearly 37,000 Polish tourists visited Vietnam overall during that period. The Hue figure and the national figure describe different geographies, so they should not be compared as equivalent destination totals.

The first eight months of 2025 produced more detailed market shares. France accounted for 13.5% of Hue’s international market, the United States for 9.5% and the United Kingdom for 7.6%, according to the Hue France market report. The report recorded nearly 64,200 visitors for the France-led source-market figure, nearly 45,200 visitors from the United States and more than 36,200 from the United Kingdom. Its wording describes the France figure as later reported, so the measurement period remains the first eight months of 2025.

Targets and long-term plans

Targets should be separated from completed results. For 2025, Hue set a target of 4.8–5 million tourists, an international share target of 38–40% and a tourism-revenue target of 10.8–11.2 trillion VND, according to the Hue tourism conference 2025. The later 2025 year-end figures reported above are outcome estimates and reviews, not the original targets.

For 2026, the Hue tourism 2026 targets set a goal of 7–7.5 million visitors, including 2.3–2.5 million international visitors. The plan targets an average stay of 2.1 days per visitor, tourism revenue of around 15,000 billion VND and revenue growth of 15–18% versus 2025.

The longer-term Hue tourism development project aims for 10–12 million visitors by 2030. It targets annual growth of 18–20%, with international tourists expected to account for 45–50% of visitors. The project also projects tourism contributing about 15% of Hue’s GRDP by 2030. These are development-plan projections, not measured outcomes.
