Regional scope and headline figures
The South Central Coast of Viet Nam covers nearly 44,376.9 square kilometres. Its tourism geography includes Da Nang City and the seven provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, and Binh Thuan. This regional definition comes from the Overall plan to develop tourism in Viet Nam’s South Central Coast.
The available 2024 figures show a wide range of destination scale. Khanh Hoa welcomed more than 10.6 million visitors, while Binh Dinh recorded 9.2 million and Quang Nam reported more than 8 million. Da Nang later reported 8.67 million staying tourists in the first nine months of 2024, against an annual target of 8.43 million. These totals use the measurements and definitions reported by each local source, so they should not be treated as a single harmonized regional series.
| Destination or indicator | Period | Reported result |
|---|---|---|
| Khanh Hoa visitors | 2024 | More than 10.6 million |
| Binh Dinh visitors | 2024 | 9.2 million |
| Quang Nam visitors | 2024 | More than 8 million |
| Da Nang staying tourists | First 9 months of 2024 | 8.67 million |
| Hue heritage-site visitors | 2024 | 2.77 million |
| Quang Ngai visitors | 2023 | More than 1 million |
Khanh Hoa’s 2024 visitor total was 45.5% higher than in 2023. Binh Dinh’s total rose 83.9% year on year, while its tourism revenue increased 55.4%. Quang Nam’s 2024 tourism revenue was about VND9.2 trillion, with tourism social income above VND21.6 trillion. These measures are not interchangeable: tourism revenue refers to the reported tourism-sector result, while social income is a broader measure.
Da Nang aviation and visitor activity
Da Nang set a 2024 tourism target of 8.43 million visitors. During the seven-day Tet 2024 holiday, the city welcomed 402,000 visitors. Nearly 177,000 were foreign visitors, and estimated tourism revenue reached VND1,580 billion. The figures were reported in Da Nang welcomes over 402,000 tourist arrivals during Tet.
Air connectivity was a major part of the holiday flow. Da Nang recorded 777 domestic and international flights during the seven-day Tet break, an average of 111 flights per day. The reported daily mix was 58 domestic flights and 53 international flights. Three cruise ships also berthed at Tien Sa Port with 3,400 international guests.
Activity beyond airport arrivals was visible in the city’s river tourism. Han River sightseeing boat tours reached 21,680 during Tet 2024, 50% more than during Tet 2023. This provides a useful indicator of concentrated holiday demand for an urban attraction rather than an estimate of total visitor volume.
New Year’s Day 2024 offered another short-period snapshot. Da Nang Airport handled 112 domestic and international flights carrying more than 15,500 passengers. International flights numbered 50 and carried an estimated 7,500 passengers. The figures were reported in Da Nang welcomes first visitors of the new year.
Da Nang’s international market was also significant in the first half of the year. More than 822,000 Korean visitors arrived during the first six months of 2024, up 40% year on year, according to Da Nang organizes campaign to attract Korean tourists. During the first seven months, the city drew more than 2.4 million international visitors. That total represented 96% of Da Nang’s annual estimate, according to Da Nang boosts tourism promotion in Japanese and Australian markets.
Tourism spending and specialist activities added further detail. Estimated tourism revenue exceeded VND3.7 trillion in the first six months of 2024, according to A series of attractive tourism stimulus events and programmes in Enjoy Danang 2024. Golf courses recorded 88,502 rounds in the same period, compared with 84,327 in the first half of 2023. Legend Danang Golf Resort accounted for more than 59,000 of the 2024 rounds. These golf figures were reported in 144 top Vietnamese and international golfers compete at the “BRG Open Golf Championship Da Nang 2024”.
Quang Nam and Hoi An tourism
Quang Nam recorded more than 8 million visitors in 2024. About 5.5 million were international visitors and more than 2.5 million were domestic visitors. The province reported about VND9.2 trillion in tourism revenue and more than VND21.6 trillion in tourism social income. These figures come from Quảng Nam đón hơn 8 triệu lượt khách trong năm 2024.
The province’s holiday results show how quickly demand can concentrate around calendar events. New Year holiday 2024 arrivals reached 103,000, up 130% year on year. Lunar New Year 2024 arrivals reached 97,000, up 42% year on year. The New Year result was reported in Hoi An welcomes thousands of visitors on New Year holiday, while the Tet figure was reported in Vietnam tourism energising during Lunar New Year 2024.
My Son Sanctuary supplied a separate heritage indicator. It welcomed nearly 446,000 visitors in 2024 and earned more than VND71.4 billion in revenue. Those figures were reported in Quang Nam tourism in new year 2025. They describe one attraction’s performance and should not be added to the province-wide visitor total, because the source does not establish whether attraction visits represent unique people or trips.
Quang Nam set a 2025 target of 8.4 million visitors. The target included 5.7 million international tourists and 2.7 million domestic tourists. These are targets, not realized visitor counts, and were also reported in Quang Nam tourism in new year 2025.
Hue heritage tourism
Hue’s heritage sites welcomed 2.77 million visitors in 2024, more than 19.14% above 2023. International visitors exceeded 1.26 million, while domestic visitors exceeded 1.51 million. Ticket revenue surpassed VND422 billion, up more than 18.6% year on year and equal to 132% of plan. The source for these measurements is Gần 2,8 triệu lượt khách đến tham quan di sản Huế trong năm 2024.
The reported visitor mix was slightly larger on the domestic side, while international visitors still represented more than 1.26 million heritage-site visits. Because the source reports visitor categories for heritage sites, these figures describe site visitation rather than necessarily measuring all tourism trips to Hue.
Tet produced a shorter, high-intensity period for the destination. Hue’s heritage and attraction visits were approximately 100,000 over nine days during Tet 2024, about 17.64% higher than in 2023. Accommodation occupancy was estimated at 62.4%, and accommodation revenue was estimated at VND115 billion. These figures come from Tourist numbers to Hue surge during Tet. The occupancy and revenue figures are estimates for the stated holiday period, not annual totals.
Khanh Hoa and coastal resort demand
Khanh Hoa recorded more than 10.6 million visitors in 2024, up 45.5% from 2023. More than 4.5 million were international visitors, an 89.3% increase year on year. Tourism revenue was nearly VND52,272 billion, up 53.9% from 2023. The results were reported in Khanh Hoa gradually becomes a prominent destination in Asia.
The province exceeded its 2024 visitor target by 17.8%. It exceeded the international-visitor target by 51.4% and the revenue target by 30.4%. These percentages describe performance against planned benchmarks, not changes in the size of the market alone. The same source reported all three target comparisons.
Tet provided another measure of seasonal scale. Khanh Hoa welcomed 206,000 visitors during Tet 2024, and tourism revenue exceeded VND959.1 billion. These figures were reported in Khanh Hoa gets bumper tourism crop on Tet. Since the source gives a holiday total without an annualized conversion, it is best read as a snapshot of peak-period demand.
Binh Dinh and Quang Ngai
Binh Dinh welcomed 9.2 million visitors in 2024 and generated VND25.5 trillion in tourism revenue. Visitor volume increased 83.9% compared with 2023, while revenue increased 55.4%. The totals were reported in Năm 2024, Bình Định đón 9,2 triệu lượt khách, doanh thu đạt 25.500 tỷ đồng; the visitor and revenue headline was also reported in Binh Dinh kicks off 2025 Summer Tourism Festival.
Event programming was part of the province’s tourism strategy. Binh Dinh planned 28 events in 2024 to attract tourists, according to Binh Dinh promotes culture and sports events to develop tourism economy. The figure is a planned event count, not a count of completed events or resulting visitors.
Quang Ngai welcomed more than 1 million visitors in 2023, including 15,200 international visitors. Tourism revenue exceeded VND1 trillion. The province had 18 travel businesses, about 380 accommodation establishments, two provincial-level tourist areas, and three recognized tourist destinations. These figures were reported in Quang Ngai promotes community-based and rural tourism as its strength.
Quang Ngai’s Tet 2024 visitor total topped 100,000 and tourism revenue reached VND57 billion. Visitor volume was 2.8 times the previous year, while revenue was 3.5 times the previous year. Those comparisons come from the same Quang Ngai source and refer specifically to the Tet period. They should not be compared directly with the province’s 2023 annual visitor total.
Together, the figures show several distinct tourism patterns along Central Coast Vietnam: large annual visitor bases in Khanh Hoa and Binh Dinh, strong international and aviation activity in Da Nang, heritage-led demand in Hue and Quang Nam, and sharp holiday growth in Quang Ngai. The periods, geographies, and measurement types differ, so each statistic is most useful when read alongside its source label and stated timeframe.
